Getting Started with Beacon

Visit Beacon and create an account. You'll land in your monitoring dashboard.

Add your first monitor

  1. Click New monitor
  2. Enter the URL you want to monitor (e.g. https://api.example.com/health)
  3. Choose check frequency (every 1, 5, or 15 minutes)
  4. Select regions (or use all 12)
  5. Save

Beacon starts checking your service immediately from multiple regions.

Configure alerting

When an outage is detected, Beacon needs to notify you:

  1. Go to Alert settings
  2. Enter your email and phone number
  3. Choose notification methods (email, SMS, Slack, PagerDuty)
  4. Set alert thresholds (how many region failures trigger an alert)

Now you'll be notified if your service goes down.

Set up a status page

Your users want to know what's happening. Create a public status page:

  1. Go to Status page settings
  2. Click Create public page
  3. Choose your status page domain (e.g. status.example.com)
  4. Select which monitors to display

Your status page is now live and updates in real-time as monitors report health.

Add a runbook

When an incident fires, your team needs a checklist. Add a runbook:

  1. Go to Runbooks
  2. Create a runbook for a critical service
  3. List the steps to diagnose and fix the issue
  4. Attach it to your monitor

When the monitor alerts, the runbook appears immediately.
